SHAtter jailbreak Compatible with the new Apple TV

Early last month a new jailbreak was confirmed for iOS 4.1 that would work forever. It was calledSHAtter and worked by using a bootrom vulnerability meaning Apple cannot patch devices to stop it.

SHAtter was great news for iPhone 4 and latest gen iPod touch owners, but it now looks as thoughApple TV owners will also be able to use it. The Dev-Team Blog has confirmed that the new Apple TV running iOS can be jailbroken with SHAtter.
Posting on their blog the team said:
It’s confirmed…SHAtter can trick Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too! Literally the only UI application on the ATV is Lowtide.app, but now the window is open for jailbroken apps of all varieties. (Just like the early iPhone days, the only apps you’ll see on the AppleTV will be jailbroken ones).
The following video was also posted showing root access via SSH on the new Apple TV:
A recent teardown of the new Apple TV hardware found Apple has included 8GB of flash memory it forgot to announce. Such an inclusion points to a potential Apple TV App Store in the future. But with SHAtter unlocking the device users don’t need to wait for Apple to roll such a service out.
