Nexus S hacked to run on MeeGo

Nexus S hacked to run on MeeGo
We know Android 2.3 Gingerbread is fresh out the oven, just as its Nexus Sflagship is, but it
already got hacked to run on MeeGo, the mobile OS project by Nokia and Intel. Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has booted MeeGo on a Nexus S from a rootfs image on the internal memory. This means that you will not need to flash, but do not expect a fully functional build – the touchscreen along with Wi-Fi are not working and the display output is on the dark side. What works however is the ADB root shell as well as X11 and UI apps.

It is nice to see enthusiasts working on porting the open source MeeGo OS. And for those of you who want to give it a run on your Nexus S, check out the instructions at the source below. Be warned, however, that “if you've never built a MeeGo rootfs before, it's relatively straightforward, and all the binaries are precompiled for you (but it's definitely for developers only),” as Smith put it. Well, without a functional touchscreen, we would only advice this to the most curious of developers!
