For iPad & iPhone BBC iPlayer App Releasing in February

Finally the wait is over! BBC iPlayer app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad could be launching on the App Store in February. The news came in six months after being given the go-ahead by the BBC Trust.

The BBC iPlayer for iOS devices is expected to be launched before Future Media and Technology Director Erik Huggers departs from the BBC. He leaves for Intel at that time. Reportedly, BBC is cutting its online budget by 25%, slashing half of its websites and laying off as many of 400 staff over the next two years. Meh!
Those who don’t know, BBC iPlayer, which is a popular on-demand BBC program service for UK residents, is already available on the iPhone and iPad as a web-app. Just visit iPlayer website in your Safari browser, and you’ll find a slick mobile Web version that streams shows using the QuickTime video format. But a native-built iOS app would bring powerful features as compared to the current web version.
Is iPlayer on iPhone and iPad a big deal? Will it allow you to cache TV shows? Social-network integration and push notification will indeed make it powerful but, we are looking forward to seeing what exactly the BBC iPlayer app for iPad and iPhone will offer and will update you once more information about it comes in.
