Jailbreak iPod touch 4G 4.3 iOS using Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 with Multitouch Gestures [Guide]

iH8sn0w has released Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 which brings a fix to iBooty issues while jailbreaking fourth generation iPod touch running 4.3 firmware. Steven already pushedsn0wbreeze 2.3b2 yesterday fixing ASLR issue that was breaking Mobilesubstrate in iOS 4.3. It is important to note that it is a “Tethered” jailbreak and you have to boot your device using iBooty. Just follow the guide below.

Requirements

Build Custom iOS 4.3 Firmware

Step 1: Start Sn0wbreeze 2.3b3 and you will notice the following screen. Click Blue arrow button (bottom-right) to continue.
Step 2: Here we have an option to select the firmware. Select “Browse” directly drag-and-drop your iOS firmware file as shown in screenshot below.
Step 3: The application will automatically detect the device which is required to be jailbroken. In this case we have selected iPod Touch 4G IPSW files. Sn0wbreeze check the firmware if it is correct. Once the 4.3 IPSW is verified, click the blue arrow button to continue.
Step 4: Now you will be prompted to select either “Simple Mode” or “Expert Mode” . Here we have Selected Expert Mode as this will allow you to add 4-finger and 5-finger multitouch gestures on your device. This also provides other customizing options, such as installing custom boot logos, root partition size and installer options. If you do not need any of these options, you can select Simple mode and directly jump to Step 8.
Step 5: Now you will be confronted with the following screen: Click ‘General’ button and click the blue arrow button to continue.
Step 6: Tick Enable Gestures Menu and Install “working” MobileSubstrate (refer the screen below). Click the Blue arrow button to continue.
Step 7: You will now see the following screen. Optionally, you can download apps from your favorite repos, to include in your IPSW. Click the blue arrow button to continue.
Step 8: Now, select Build IPSW, as shown below.
It will start building jailbroken custom firmware for iOS 4.3. During the process, it will Patch iBSS, ramdisk etc and will provide you an option to either play Pacman game or classic spinner. We have selected spinner in this tutorial guide.
Step 9: Wait till the entire custom IPSW file creation process is completed. You will get the following screen confirming that this jailbreak is tethered. Click OK
Step 10: Now, press ‘OK’ button to follow the onscreen instructions to put your device into restorable state.
Step 11: You will then be prompted to connect your device and click start when you are ready. Please turn off your iPod touch. Put your device in DFU mode. Follow on-screen instructions.
For the DFU mode:
  • Turn off the device while connected to your computer
  • Click the Home + Power button for 10 seconds then release only the power button while continuing to press the Home button.
Step 12: Open iTunes and will show a warning message where there is informed that you have connected an iPhone in DFU mode, click OK and go forward.
Step 13: Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, click with the mouse on the Restore button in iTunes.
Step 14: Now select the custom IPSW that was created and click the Choose button. Wait for a while till iTunes installs the new firmware 4.3 on your iPod touch4G. After the installation is done, your device will restart automatically. You have now successfully jailbroken iOS 4.3.

Booting iTouch in Tethered Mode

As there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3, we will have to boot it into a tethered mode using iBooty. You will find it on your desktop which is automatically downloaded during the IPSW creation process. Just follow the steps below.
Step 1: Run iBooty and select iPod Touch 4G from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Click the “Start” button and follow the on-screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode:
  • Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
  • Release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 seconds
  • You iTouch should now be in DFU mode
Step 3: Once you are into DFU mode, iBooty will do the rest and then your iPod touch 4G will be booted in a tethered jailbroken mode.
Final Step: You can no navigate to general preferences menu and turn on the new multi-gestures menu. Here is the demo  video of multi-touch gestures on iPod touch 4g. Following are the gestures that you can try on your jailbroken device.
  • Swipe 4 or 5 fingers to the left or to the right to navigate through open applications.
  • Swipe 4 fingers up to access the running apps tray and playback buttons, including Airplay controls.
  • If you Pinch with all your fingers, you will go to the home screen from any app, without touching your home button.
If you face any trouble while jailbreaking your device, just drop a message in the comment section.
